Campaigners are ‘delighted’ after plans for a new drive-through coffee shop in Buckshaw Village were scrapped.

Alison Holme, who runs Cowshed, on Barnes Wallis Way, and mobile coffee counter Coffee Cow, fought proposals for a new commercial unit which was “likely” to be a drive-through coffee shop.

It was planned for Ordnance Road, alongside a new Aldi supermarket and community centre.

But after concerns were raised by businesses and the community at a public consultation event, the designs have been amended and do not include the coffee shop.

Instead Aldi, along with developer Primrose Holdings, have submitted a planning application for a smaller retail unit, along with the new food store and community centre.

The retail unit could house one business or be split for use by up to three businesses.

It has not yet been confirmed what businesses will be there.

A spokesman for Aldi said: “We are happy with the positive comments from the community regarding our plans for a food store and community centre in Buckshaw Village.

“We are committed to consultation and it was made clear by residents at the exhibition that a drive-through coffee shop would not be
welcomed.

“We have therefore decided to drop this particular idea.”

Alison said: “We are delighted the plans submitted by Aldi and Primrose Holdings will no longer involve a drive-through coffee shop.

“We’d like to thank Aldi for taking the time to meet us to listen to our concerns.

“It is reassuring they have responded positively to the views of businesses and residents.”

The planning application has been submitted to Chorley Council and a decision is
expected to be made in early summer.
