A footballer scored twice in one day after bagging a winner in the afternoon before grabbing a date on ITV’s Take Me Out.

Squires Gate FC footballer Joe Noblet scored a 30-yard screamer in his side’s 2-1 win over Baroldswick Town before his attempts at wooing a young siren was aired on the popular Saturday night show.

The 19-year-old centre midfielder proved himself to be a hit on and off the pitch as he turned on the charm to whisk 27-year-old Megan off to the Isle of Fernandos.

Joe, who revealed he was a High School Musical and bingo enthusiast from Lostock Hall in Preston, said he was “Preston’s answer to Zac Efron” and the girls seemed to be taken by his boyish charm.

The popular ITV show, which has returned for its eighth series, sees one single man coming down the ‘love lift’ to their chosen song in front of 30 single girls looking for love.

After a video plays telling the girls a bit about their potential suitor, he either performs a stunt or has a friend or family member reveal an embarrassing fact.

Throughout this time, each girl can choose to turn off her light if she doesn’t want to be considered for a date and the man then picks from the remaining girls left with their light on at the end.

Joe, who works as a children’s football coach as well as studying at Myerscough College, was left with 10 girls with their light on – but says it was really tough to decide.

Joe who arrived on the show to Shaggy’s ‘Angel’, said: “There’s nothing scripted about the show at all, when I came down the lift that was the first time I’d seen any of the girls so my reaction is genuine.

“There’s hundreds of people watching and then you go straight to Paddy so it’s really difficult to look at any of the girls and decide which ones are nice.”

Joe is on loan at the School Road North West Counties League club from Kendal Town and says he can’t believe the reaction since the episode aired.

He said: “My phone went crazy! Usually they don’t say the lads’ names but when they said Noblet loads of people started following me on social media.

“I don’t take myself too seriously and just went on the show for a laugh and I think that came across even during the cheesy lines!”

His TV appearance wasn’t at the forefront of his mind on Saturday though: “When it hit 3pm I was trying my best to help the lads get three points against Barnoldswick!”

Joe’s date with Megan will air next Saturday and he says people will have to wait to see if he’s still single.

He said: “I was happy with who I picked but I can’t say anything about next week so people will have to see if the show worked for me!”
