Jingle bells can make thieves go away!

PICK-pockets hoping to target festive shoppers won't be as silent as they would like, thanks to the return of some jingle bells – and this year they're bigger.

As part of BSafe Blackpool's annual Christmas safety campaign, the partnership has given away 5,000 bells which attach to purses or bags and alert the owner if anyone tampers with them.

The initiative, a joint project between BSafe Blackpool and Blackpool Improvement District, was a great success last year with 4,000 bells being given out by police community and support officers.

This year the bells are bigger and therefore louder, making a pick-pocket's job even harder and thereby reducing crime in the town.

Coun Tony Williams, chairman of BSafe Blackpool, said: "The simplest ideas are often the best and these bells prove that point.

"They are festive and fun as well as easy to use and do the job of deterring pick-pockets who take Christmas time as an opportunity to target shoppers."
