Fire services in Preston have launched an investigation after a suspected 'arson attack' at a charity furniture shop.

Two crews from Preston were called to the Emmaus Megastore on Brookfield Street at around 6.50pm on May 10.

Firefighters arrived to find a sofa on fire outside the premises but near to the shop.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "We attended a fire outside the former B&Q store in Preston last night. The fire started outside in a sofa but had spread to the cladding of the building.

"We used hose-reel jets to extinguish the fire. Thankfully we managed to get there in time. If it had been left any longer the fire could have been much more serious. We believe the fire was started deliberately."

Nobody was injured during the incident.
