Innovative justice project honoured

PRESTON'S restorative justice centre project has reached the finals of the National Justice Awards organised by the Ministry of Justice.

Crime reduction charity Nacro’s Restorative Justice Centres, which bring victims of crime face to face with offenders to try to resolve their issues is nominated in the the Tackling Youth Crime category.

The restorative justice project was set up three years ago to repair the damage done by the anti- social or criminal behaviour of young people aged eight to 18 and adults.

A group of peer panel volunteers bring together those who have caused harm and those who have been affected. Panel volunteers take both parties through a process of restorative justice which results in a six-week restorative justice agreement.

Winners will be announced on October 20 at a ceremony in Banqueting House in London.
