‘I found maggots in my morning fruit pot snack’

A supermarket chain is investigating after a man claimed he found maggots in his fruit pot.

Landscape gardener Daniel Thompson picked up a £1 box of grapes and strawberries from Tesco Express, Leyland Lane, Leyland before starting his shift.

But halfway through the fruit pot the 21-year-old, who is from Leyland, said he spotted several wriggly creatures inside and on top of his fruit and then realised they were maggots.

He said: “I was really looking forward to it.

“But I soon realised there were maggots all over the fruit - I must have eaten one.

“I was disgusted.”

A spokesman for Tesco said they are investigating after Mr Thompson complained to them.

The spokesman said: “We have contacted our supplier to investigate and our Customer Service Team will update Mr Thompson with the findings.”

He added: “We set ourselves high standards for the quality of the food we sell and were disappointed to hear of this incident.”
