Husband, 81, will face murder trial

A provisional trial date has been set in the case of an 81-year-old man who is charged with the murder of his wife.

At a preliminary hearing in Preston Crown Court, February 16 next year was fixed for the start of the trial of John Sutton.

The court was told that the defendant was in the building but the elderly man, being assessed in a secure unit under the Mental Health Act, was not required to be in the dock.

He is charged with the murder of Anne Sutton, 71, whose body was discovered in July at the home the couple shared in Hesketh Lane, Tarleton.

The Recorder of Preston, judge Anthony Russell QC set a date of December 15 for the defendant to enter a plea to the court.
