A PENSIONER from Preston suffered a bizarre misfortune when a snail ate his carpet.
The 73-year-old submitted an insurance claim for £78 for a damaged carpet, saying a smail had chomped its way through the floor covering.
His claim was just one of a series of bizarre accidents, as revealed by over-50s insurance provider RIAS.
Other incidents included a badger destroying partof a garden shed and a pigeon that caused £8,000 worth of damage to a home after flying down the chimey.
Peter Corfield, managing director at RIAS said: “While we go out of our way to ensure that our homes and gardens are safe and secure, sometimes it’s the most unlikely events that can end up causing real damage. Not all claims are straightforward and sometimes we do see some bizarre scenarios. Babies and animals are often the culprits.”
