Tribute: Alan Walmsleys coffin is carried into the church.

Hundreds of people paid tribute to a “proud dad” who died in an accident on the M6 motorway.

Alan Walmsley’s funeral was held at St Lawrence’s Church, Longridge.

Floral tributes featuring the nickname he was known by to all his friends – Jossy – and a football were carried into church.

One touching tribute from his daughter Donna simply read: “It was an honour to call you dad.”

Alan, 62, was described by his family as a “proud dad” who “had a smile for everyone and lived life to the full”.

A family spokesman said Alan was a devoted husband to his wife Jacqs for 43 years, “her soulmate, best friend, her rock and much more” and a proud dad and grandad, leaving sons Jay and Ian, daughter Donna, daughter-in-law Pam and four grandchildren.

Alan lived in the Preston area prior to moving to Longridge 30 years ago and had always been involved in fundraising for local good causes.

He used to play football for Ribchester and after being injured, turned to managing local teams. He was also secretary of Longridge Utd, now AFC Longridge.

“Alan lived life to the full. He had a smile for everyone and always tried to help people even if that meant he went without. He saw the best in everyone,” a family tribute said.

“He loved his job, worked for local companies all his life and, when he wasn’t working weekends and busy with the football, he could be found on his allotment with his various stock, chickens and goats.”
