Thousands of people cheered on a host of fitness fanatics as they pushed their bodies to the limit in the UK’s 10th Ironman.
Global athletes and many local enthusiasts joined 1,751 people as they swam, cycled and ran their way through the Lancashire and Bolton countryside. The 112-mile cycle journey passed through Chorley and included the tough Sheephouse Lane Climb in Rivington, near Chorley. The mega triathlon also featured a 2.4 mile swim through Pennigton flash lake and a 26.2 mile run. Frenchman Cyril Viennot won the race, crossing the finish line in 8:44:10 and British athlete Tamsin Lewis was the fastest woman with a time of 9:52:12. And the debutante praised the Lancashire crowd. She said: “”I loved the spectators – I was nearly in tears. One of the reasons why I wanted to do this race was because I knew the crowds would be amazing.”
