An investigation is underway after a fire at a house in Preston.
The police and fire service are looking into the cause of the blaze on Trower Street at 1.35pm today.
The fire was discovered by the police, who were passing and saw the front door was open and there was smoke.
Two fire engines from Preston attended and found a blaze in a living area on the first floor of the terraced house.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus put out the flames and made sure there was no-one in the property.
The fire damaged the living area and the rest of the first floor.
Watch manager Mark Woodward, at Preston fire station, said: “There were no working smoke alarms fitted. It was spotted in the daytime, but if that fire had been at nighttime and there were people in, they might not have been aware of the fire.
“We recommend that people fit smoke alarms. They can do that by going on our website for a home fire safety check.”
