The work of the catering team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust will feature on national television next week.
Andy Bickle, head chef at Furness General Hospital, spent the day with celebrity chef James Martin last Autumn, which inspired him to create new recipes to improve patients’ food.
“It was an extremely interesting day,” Andy said. “There were lots of suggestions that we are looking at within the catering team, and it also confirmed that we are doing a lot of the right things.”
James Martin said: “Visiting Andy at the Lancaster Royal Infirmary was fantastic.
“The fact that he’d applied at his Trust what he’d learnt at the Cookery School was exactly what I’d hoped would happen.
He added: “It was great to meet up with the catering team who were all eager to find ways to improve hospital food nationally. If every NHS Trust was as proactive as Morecombe Bay, then we would be a lot closer to transforming the standard of hospital food throughout the country.”
The work at Royal Lancaster Infirmary will be shown on the final episode of Operation Hospital Food on Friday, February 28 at 9.15am on BBC1.
