Two physiotherapists from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have travelled to work in Rwanda.
Ellen Marshall and Megan Rees, along with former colleague Charlotte Draper, worked at Kibogora Hospital for two weeks, where resources and facilities are limited.
They worked alongside thr ee Rwandan physiotherapists to help patients with spinal injuries, the elderly and post-surgical patients, as well as providing training sessions for the physiotherapists and developing a moving and handling programme for the nursing staff.
Ellen, from Preston, said: “It was a real eye-opening experience and extremely humbling.
“It was really hard work but so rewarding, we had to use our skills in different ways because they just don’t have the same facilities over there they we do. It was quite upsetting at times and really made us feel very appreciative of what we have over here.”
