Hooligan figures cause outrage

A firm has angered football clubs by selling a range of football hooligan figurines in their colours aimed at children as young as three.

Clubs and the Premier League have threatened legal action after Morecambe-based makers Blighty Collectables encouraged youngsters on their website to collect their Little Hooliganz characters.

These include the Chelsea Cat Crew, Liverpool Lion Leaders and Man Utd Merlin Marauders.

The firm has now withdrawn the four-inch 4.99 figurines, which, its website says, were dreamed up by "ex-football hooligan" Rob Edwards, a 31-year-old Shrewsbury Town supporter.

A Premier League spokesman said: "Anything which celebrates or trivialises hooliganism in any form is deplorable."

Blighty Collectables is run by 26-year-old Jon Duckett, who said the figures "satirised rather than glamorised" hooligans.
