Homes evacuated after roof collapse

Homes and businesses were evacuated after the roof of a warehouse collapsed in Lancashire.

It had initially been feared that people may have been trapped inside the building following the collapse, but it was later confirmed there were no injuries.

The emergency services were called to the disused warehouse in North Road, Lancaster, shortly before 5pm on Thursday. Nearby businesses and six flats were evacuated.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene, as well as an aerial ladder platform, an Urban Search and Rescue team, a Major Incident Support Unit, a mobile fire station and two rescue dogs. Crews remained at the scene until 10.30pm.
