Police searching for a man who discharged himself from A&E while being treated for “potentially life-threatening injuries” say he has been found and returned to hospital.

Officers issued a public appeal to trace Tony Lee, 40, who left the Royal Preston Hospital at around 1pm on Wednesday.

He had attended A&E earlier in the day after falling down some stairs and suffering a head injury.

He underwent a scan, but refused to wait for the results and left the site.

The scan results later showed he had serious injuries which needed immediate medical attention.

PS Richard Horton said yesterday: “Tony has suffered head injuries which could be life-threatening if he doesn’t get treatment.

“It is imperative we find him and get him to a hospital.

“We would urge anybody who sees him, or who knows where he is, to get in touch with us immediately.”

But today a police spokesperson said Mr Lee, who lives in Preston, had been found last night and taken back to the hospital.
