Healthwatch Lancashire has appointed a new interim chairman.

Mike Wedgeworth, a Canon at Blackburn Cathedral and former chief executive of Hyndburn Council, will provide leadership to the board of directors of Healthwatch Lancashire, a local watchdog on health and social care services.

Mr Wedgeworth, who is also the independent chair of Third Sector Lancashire, said: “I see this role as a follow-on from my work with voluntary, community and faith groups over many years.

“There are huge changes going on in the National Health Service and in social care, and Healthwatch is a vital route to influencing those changes for the good of the people and communities of Lancashire.”

Healthwatch Lancashire Chief Executive, Gill Brown, said: “I am delighted that Mike has been appointed as Interim Chair of Healthwatch Lancashire. His vast experience and wealth of knowledge about issues facing health and wellbeing will help to ensure that Healthwatch Lancashire is in the best possible position to represent the people of Lancashire.”

Mr Wedgeworth was awarded the MBE in 2010 for services to Further Education and the Community of Lancashire.

Healthwatch Lancashire is the public voice on health and social care with the role to listen and the power to influence change within the health and social care system.
