Most six-year-olds like nothing better than a bedtime story.

But for little Jack Johnstone, his bed is a lifeline which is helping to improve his health.

Jack suffers from cystic fibrosis (CF), a genetic condition which affects his lungs.

The Evening Post reported in January how his family was fundraising to buy him a specialist vibrating bed, to help his condition.

After manufacturers Niagara saw a copy of the story, they stepped in and offered brave Jack a £3,000 cyclotherapy bed for free. The equipment helps him to cough up mucus and clear his lungs so he can breathe more easily and get a better night’s sleep.

Jack’s mum Tina, 38, of Gib Lane, Hoghton near Preston, said: “I sent them a copy of the story and out of the blue, they called up and offered the bed free of charge.

“They said they were touched by Jack after seeing his story. It’s wonderful.

“We have now got all the equipment and Jack has been coughing a lot which we are hoping is a good sign.”

The family continued with the fundraising events they had already planned, including a fun night at the Wagon and Horses pub in Leyland, where kind LEP readers and local firms had donated gifts as a raffle prizes. The events raised more than £4,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Jack has also been treated to a special trip to London by charity Rays of Sunshine, which supports children with serious and life-threatening illnesses by granting wishes and organising outings.

Farington Primary School pupil Jack and his family enjoyed meeting the magician Dynamo, famed for his walking on water stunt at the River Thames in 2011.

Mum-of-two Tina, a manager at Four Seasons Healthcare, said: “Dynamo spent half an hour with Jack, doing some magic tricks.

“We then had a limousine to the London Eye.

“It was incredible. Jack is hyper at the moment, with all that has been going on over the last week.”
