Ward re-opens for elderly patients

A new and improved hospital ward for elderly patients has re-opened.

The Rookward A ward at Chorley and South Ribble Hospital has been given a makeover to make it more suitable and comfortable for older people, many of whom suffer from dementia.

Chief Executive of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Karen Partington said: “ “We have an ageing population now so it’s vital that we provide excellent care with compassion for our older patients, in particular those with dementia as it is such a complex condition that affects everybody differently.

Thanks to the funding from the Department of Health we are now able to lead the way in caring for older people and those with dementia.”

The makeover took five weeks to complete and the ward now includes a new day room and sensory garden.
