Walkers ready for festival

Keen walkers have laced up their boots for a festival of walking.

South Ribble Council’s seventh annual Walking Week has got underway with a series of events which will run throughout this week.

South Ribble Coun Phil Smith, South Ribble Borough Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration, leisure and healthy communities, said: “We have some great countryside right on our doorstep in South Ribble and Walking Week is a super way for residents to get out and enjoy it.

“There are eight walks covering a variety of distances and they’re all free of charge, so there should be something suitable for everyone, which fits with our priorities to promote strong and healthy communities in South Ribble. Bearing in mind we’ve had such a wet summer, people should bring waterproofs as well as sunscreen, just to be fully prepared.”

Today a five-mile ramble will start from Hurst Grange Park in Penwortham at 1pm and walkers are asked to meet at the Hill Road car park.

Tomorrow a 4.5 mile walk will set off from the playing fields of Moss Side Way in Leyland at 10am, while a Buckshaw Village to Worden Park walk will sett off from the Buckshaw Village sports centre at 1pm.
