Health walk today
South Ribble Ramblers are in for a treat with a health walk set to take place today. Meeting at Longton Brickcroft Visitor Centre, Liverpool Road, Longton, Preston PR4 5YY, the walk will start at 1pm. For further details about the event call 01772 42149.
Generous gifts for homeless
Teenagers collected more than 300 food tins plus toiletries and extra food to help the homeless on Preston’s Flag Market on Sunday. Jade Towers, 16, from Penwortham, took part in the event to support Fox Street Community shelter, Preston. She said: “Thank you to everyone who brought donations.”
Youngsters to cook and paint
A project night will be held tomorrow at Garstang Young People’s Centre. The event, from 6.45pm to 9.15pm at the centre in High Street, will feature a cooking workshop and graffiti class.
International show for R2D2
Star wars legend Kenny Baker flew to Spain for a sci-fi convention this weekend. The 3ft 8ins tall actor, 78, from Ashton, Preston, who played R2D2 in the movies, attended Cificome Madrid.
Next police meeting set
The next Bamber Bridge PACT meeting takes place next week. The meeting, where the community can meet with police officers to share and concerns or issues, will be held at Cuerden Methodist Church Community Centre, Station Road, Bamber Bridge, from 7pm on Tuesday evening. Mayor heads of to the races
The Mayor of South Ribble, Coun Colin Clark and his wife Margaret are set to host a fund-raising trip to Belle Vue Stadium on Friday. The money raised will go to the Mayor’s charities, St Catherine’s Hospice, North West Air Ambulance and the Prostate Cancer Charity.
Date set for health walk
A health walk is set to take place at Cuerden Valley Park on Thursday. It will be held between 10am and 12pm and it will be led by a health walks leader. To take part meet at the Barn at Berkeley Drive, Bamber Bridge.
