Table top sale in aid of felines

The Preston branch of Cats Protection will hold a table top sale on Saturday November 17. The event will be held at St Mary’s Church Hall on Cop Lane, Penwortham from 10am. As well as donated goods, there will be the chance to buy official Cats Protection 2013 calendars and diaries.

Faith talk at toddler group

As part of Interfaith Week, the parent and toddler group at Christ Church, Fulwood, will be holding a Faith stories session to learn about different faiths. The group will meet on Monday, November 18, at 10.30am. For info call 01772 875823.

Spot the glass slipper to win

A glass slipper will travel around eight different shoe shops in Cleveleys, Blackpool, Poulton, Lytham and St Annes. Vouchers for the Grand Theatre Cinderella panto are up for grabs if you spot it.

Horse rescued from river

Lancaster fire crews were called out to rescue a distressed horse who had become stuck in a river. The incident happened at around 10.30am on Saturday in the Pine Lake area of Lancaster.

Ramble along the Ribble

Join a six-mile ramble along the River Ribble on Wednesday, November 14. The walk from Hurst Grange Park to Walton Park will meet at Hurst Grange car park, Hill Road, Penwortham. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Booking essential. £1 fee. Call 01772625625 for info.

Litter pick to improve park

Join South Ribble Council workers for a litter pick on Tuesday, November 13. The litter pick will clear space before planting some bulbs to enjoy next Spring! Meet at Walton Park entrance, off Carrwood Way, Walton-le-Dale at 10am. No need to book, just turn up for the free event. Call 01772 421491.

Give a pint to help save lives

Blood donor sessions will be held at the civic hall on Willows Park Lane, Longridge, near Preston, on Monday November 19. Session times will be between 2pm and 4pm and from 5pm to 7.30pm. To find out more or to book an appointment, call 0300 123 23 23.

Van fire on the motorway

Fire crews were called to a van fire on the M61 northbound at 2.10pm yesterday. Firefighters from Chorley fire station were called to the motorway just prior to junction eight at Botany Bay, where a man’s van was on fire. The fire in the Citroen van has been put down to an electrical fault. The man and his passenger were both unharmed.

Free property marking event

Penwortham residents can get their property marked for free at two crime prevention events this week. The first event will be held at Penwortham Library on Liverpool Road on Thursday between 5pm and 7pm. And the second will be held at Booths Supermarket on Milbrook Way on Saturday between 1pm and 3pm.

Mayor to go to charity event

The Mayor and Mayoress of South Ribble, Coun Colin Clark and his wife Margaret will attend a fundraising event on Saturday night. Hosted by the Grassroots Family Support the event will take place at the School Lane Club, Bamber Bridge.
