Over 400 people took their first steps to giving up smoking at an event in Preston.
Lancashire County Council, in partnership with Quit Squad, the local stop smoking service, and Public Health England, hosted an event at the St George’s shopping centre as part of the Stoptober campaign.
Jo McCullagh, the county council’s stop smoking officer, said: “We were pleased that so many people came over to our stall in St George’s centre and showed an interest in Stoptober.
“It was a chance for them to have a chat and find out what help is available to quit, check their lung age and to pick up stop smoking information packs.
“More than 200,000 people smoke in Lancashire and evidence suggests that two-thirds of smokers want to quit.
“If you contact one of the stop smoking teams you will find it much easier to give up for good.”
