An anti-smoking group has backed forthcoming legislation to introduce plain packaging for cigarettes.
The law, to be announced in the Queen’s speech in May, is also expected to ban smoking in cars carrying children.
Andrea Crossfield, Tobacco Free Futures’ director, said: “We witnessed huge public backing for standardised packaging in the North West - over 63,000 people showed their support to the government consultation last spring.
“We warmly welcome the Government’s commitment to tackling the impact of tobacco on children.”
