Hospital wards reopen
All wards at Royal Lancaster Infirmary have reopened to visitors following an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug norovirus.
The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) had closed all wards in order to try to curb the outbreak, which at one point had struck down 140 patients and 20 hospital staff.
The trust is, however, asking people to remain vigilant against the illness. UHMBT chief operating officer Juliet Walters, said: “To ensure we do not see a new outbreak of norovirus, we continue to ask that people do not enter the hospital if they have been sick or had diarrhoea in the last 72 hours or been in close contact with someone who has, unless they need emergency treatment.
“For everyone that does enter the hospital, we would still like them to ensure they wash their hands with soap and water before entering.
“We know it must have been frustrating for those that had friends and family in hospital but their help has meant that we have been able to control the outbreak and return services to normal much quicker.”
