A joint bid by Lancashire County Council (LCC) and Preston City Council (PCC) has been made for a World Health Organisation Healthy Cities Designation.

LCC and PCC were successful in achieving the five-year scheme in 2009, and now they are seeking a renewal, to build on work already done.

The movement aims to promote and improve population health at the levels of cities and towns. It seeks development through political commitment, formal structures and systems to make health and wellbeing an integral part of all policies of local authorities and partnership agencies within the designated towns and cities.

The affiliation fee of £4,000 per annum would be met by the County Council’s Public Health grant.
