Labour councillors in charge of Lancashire County Council have rebuked claims new ‘superloos’ for the disabled will be useless if installed in buildings such as libraries.

The previous Conservative leaders had budgeted more money for 24-hour, stand-alone facilities.

Councillor Tony Martin, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: “As far as I’m concerned, they were never intended to be stand-alone buildings, because they will be vandalised and worse.

“We will specifically be putting them in places that have long opening hours.”
