While most people may think slimming groups are a woman’s world, one man from Preston has shown it’s not just the fairer sex who are successful at shrinking down to size.
Barry Gasgarth from Lostock Hall, recently attended the finals of Slimming World’s Man of the Year 2014 contest where they met Sky Sports presenter Charlie Webster.
The 37-year-old was just one of 36 entrants from across the UK and Ireland to win a place in at the contest where he met the attractive personality, who recently completed the challenge of running more than a marathon a day between 40 football clubs, after losing nine stones, going from 23st 10.5lbs to 14st 10.5lbs.
Barry, who has attended the group at Lostock Hall, Chorley since February 2012 said part of his success was down to picking up new recipes and food ideas from the other members of the group.
He said: “Before I joined Slimming World I didn’t think that eating healthily would ever be able to satisfy my big appetite without leaving me feeling hungry.
“I can still enjoy all my favourite meals, from a curry with rice to a juicy steak with chips and salad, they’re just cooked differently now.
“I never feel like I’m missing out.”
And Andrea Mills, who runs the Leyland and Lostock Hall said men shouldn’t be scared of joining a slimming group.
She said:“I hope Barry inspires lots of other men in Lancashire who’d like to lose weight to go for it and join Slimming World.
“Everyone’s welcome and you never know you might even get to meet a gorgeous girl like Charlie one day!”
