A former Preston GP came to the aid of stricken Bolton Wanderers player Fabrice Muamba when he collapsed on the pitch.

Dr Jonathan Tobin, who used to work part time as Preston North End’s doctor while also working at St Mary’s Health Centre in Penwortham, was among people who administered treatment to the football star who suffered a cardiac arrest.

Tobin, Bolton’s club doctor, came to the rescue as Muamba collapsed on the pitch at White Hart Lane at 6.11pm on Saturday in the first half of an FA Cup quarter-final tie against Spurs.

Dr Tobin was later seen walking into the London Chest Hospital, where critically ill Muamba is being given life saving treatment.

The football mad medic, who was born in Enfield, was recruited in the summer of 2008 by then Wanderers manager Gary Megson.
