The adventure of three pigs who became celebrities when they went on the run for three weeks in November has had a happy ending.
The trio of saddleback sows finished their work at Moor Piece nature reserve, near Clitheroe, and are heading home to a farm near to Wigan.
They were called in to dig into the reserve, to help Lancashire Wildlife Trust create the perfect habitat for native plants and creatures.
They had escaped from their fenced enclosure, and the trust’s eastern reserves officer Phil Dykes said: “The pigs have succeeded in turning over some of the ground within the fenced off one hectare compound and we all feel that they have had a happy time up in the woodland. Their three weeks on the run gave them a different perspective on their surroundings and will have added to their enjoyment of the project.”
