Gorilla and clown in pub hold-up

A pub landlord in Manchester has been tied up and robbed by two men wearing a gorilla and a clown mask.

Two robbers banged on the door of the Shakespeare pub on Fountain Street at about 11.15pm on Monday 31 August.

The landlord was confronted by two men who threatened the victim and demanded cash.

The pair then bound the landlord's hands and feet together and tied his feet to a sink in the kitchen and left.

Once they had gone, the victim shouted for help until someone upstairs heard his cries and called police.

Officers are appealing for the driver of a black cab that dropped off the men nearby to come forward.

The first suspect was described as about 5ft 10in and was wearing a gorilla mask and a black paper suit.

The second was described was as 6ft and was wearing a clown mask that had red hair attached and a white paper suit. Both men spoke with Irish accents.

Detective Constable Brian Morley, based at Grey Mare Lane CID, said: "The victim was extremely frightened by these robbers and was left in a horrible situation by them - it is fortunate that somebody heard his cries, otherwise he could have been left in that predicament for hours.

"Their disguises were very distinctive and I would urge anyone whose memory is jogged by that to speak to us. In particular, we are keen that the cab driver who dropped the men off comes forward."
