Absolutely brilliant! That’s the official verdict on school, pupils and staff in our schools.

Awards were handed out in 13 different categories at a glittering ceremony in Preston’s Guild Hall Charter Theatre on Tuesday to celebrate all that is good in our schools.

A panel of judges had the daunting task of sifting through the entries in this year’s Lancashire Evening Post’s Education Awards before coming up with a shortlist of nominees.

Hundreds of people, including sponsors, attended the award ceremony, which celebrated primary and secondary education across Preston and Central Lancashire.

Response to this year’s awards was overwhelming, said organisers, and judges were bowled over by the standard of entries.

Sponsored by Preston’s College and BAE Systems, the awards are intended to showcase and applaud the very best students, teachers, schools and employees in the area.

It is a way of recognising that there are more things going on in our schools just preparing youngsters for exams – and officially celebrates the achievements that are being made in the education sector on a daily basis.

The awards evening followed a challenging task by a panel of judges, made up of representatives from sponsors and the Lancashire Evening Post, to produce a short list of nominations.

Lancashire Evening Post Editor Gillian Parkinson said:“We are delighted to help put the spotlight on some of the many inspirational staff and students in our schools.

“The judges found it a difficult task to choose winners, which shows the quality of the work being done in Lancashire’s education system.

“Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up who thoroughly deserved the recognition they have received.

“I would also like to thank our many sponsors, without whom the awards would not be possible.”
