A Preston man will take on the Three Peaks Challenge in memory of his dad - former PNE player George Ross.

Andrew Ross and four of his friends: Pete Smith, Jonathan Cuff, Adam Horabin, Paul Young and driver David Latham aim to climb Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell (England) and Snowdon (Wales) in 24 hours on June 16.

For Andrew, 51, of Preston, the challenge will be particularly poignant as he remembers his dad, George Ross, who died last May, aged 73.

The former footballer had played for PNE between 1960 and 1973 and was given the Life Achievement Award by the club in 2009.

Andrew said: “We are doing the National Three Peaks challenge in 24 hours or less, in memory of my dad and to try to raise a bit of cash for Heartbeat.”
“He attended Heartbeat for cardiac rehabilitation in Preston, for many years and was a great supporter of the charity.”

Michelle Hunt, Heartbeat’s fund-raising manager, said: “On behalf of all of us at Heartbeat I would like thank Andrew for choosing to support us and allowing us to benefit from his efforts in this challenge in memory of George who was well known and loved by everyone at Heartbeat.
“The money that Andrew and his friends raise will go towards the on-going work provided to local people that require heart rehabilitation by providing an exercise-based Cardiac Rehabilitation programme, fully supervised by trained instructors, to those recovering from heart attack, surgery or stroke and supports those at risk of developing these conditions. We wish Andrew and his team the best of luck in this very difficult challenge.”
