A celebration event has taken place to mark the success of this year’s Preston Guild City Games.
More than 1,350 participants took part in sporting activities over three days, across five sites.
The games were organised in partnership with Preston Council, the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), Shout Network and North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, and were sponsored by Preston’s College.
The celebration event brought together some of the businesses that took part in the games and recognised individuals and teams in two awards – spirit of the games and fair play.
The organisers of each sport chose the winners.
Among those recognised were Barbarians for fair play and Alex’s Team for spirit of the games, both in rugby, and Alisdair Boyle for fair play and Yunus Suleman for spirit of the games in badminton.
Speaking at the event, Mayor of Preston, Coun Nicholas Pomfret, said: “It’s an honour to be here today and I’d like to thank all the businesses involved, as well as those behind the scenes, for making the games another success.
“Preston is a very proud city and events such as these bring the business community together. Carry on practising your sports in readiness for next year!”
Jimmy Khan, head of sport and leisure at Preston Council said: “The celebration event was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the achievements of the unsung heroes of the games.”
