Steve and Bev Woods have decided to say goodbye to their Ashton Flower Shop in Preston after nine years.

“To be honest I’m looking forward to a rest!”

The shop in Woodplumpton Road has been a florists for nearly 40 years – and the couple say their decision to retire has not been taken lightly.

But they have put all their plans in place and bow out at the end of the month.

Steve and Bev set up the business after leaving their careers with Lancashire Police – he was an officer and she a civilian.

He said: “We’ve enjoyed it but the time is right for us to move on.

“It’s time for a change. We’ve made some good friends and we will be sad to leave.

“To be honest I’m looking forward to a rest!”

The shop has gained a good reputation and is the only florist in the area to be accepted as a member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen.

Bev said she started working with flowers at night classes after she left the police.

It then developed into a business.

She said: “We decided to take the shop on nine years ago and now we want a bit more time to ourselves.

“Many of our friends are retired already. It’s a bit of a shame because when we closed the doors here it will
mean there won’t be a florists for the first time in around 40 years.”
