Tag rugby is becoming more and more popular with Preston’s primary schools. The annual tag rugby tournament, held at Preston Grasshoppers, attracted 18 teams.

As part of the Sainsbury’s school games programme, early rounds ended up being very competitive, with some tight matches along the way.

The first group of teams that didn’t make the cup competition fought fiercely for the plate trophy, with Chipping Brabins Endowed coming out on top.

In the cup competition, once again there were matches that had to go to extra time, eventually, Preston’s The Roebuck School took the bronze medal position at the quarter finals.

The final was close going into extra time, with Harris Primary in Fulwood just losing out 5-4.

The winners were St Mary and St Andrew’s, and they will now represent Preston at county level in the SPAR Lancashire School Games.

Dean Brandwood, Preston City Council school games organiser, said: “Preston Grasshoppers gave massive support for the event, and have been coaching in some schools over the past few months, which showed in the performances on the pitch.”
