Chorley Lifestyle Centre has hosted a week of free Christmas dinners for local over 55s – thanks to a donation of £500 from the Chorley Community Housing Neighbourhood Fund.
More than 130 Chorley residents enjoyed a meal, dessert and hot drinks during the week of festivities and had the opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces and in some cases make new friends.
Chris Richardson, neighbourhood development officer at CCH, said: “It was great to see so many people being brought together by this week long event. Everyone commented on how delicious the food was and how kind the staff and volunteers had been. It’s a pleasure to have been involved with this project.”
Staff and volunteers from Age UK and Brothers of Charity worked hard throughout the week to prepare the meals, set the tables, run quizzes and raffles.
Gail McPherson, of Age UK’s Chorley Lifestyle Centre, added: “Christmas can be a difficult time of year for some elderly people who can feel alone and isolated. Its projects like this that help to bring people together and combat that feeling of isolation. We sincerely thank CCH for supporting this project.”
