A huge sculpture of cult comic Frank Sidebottom is taking shape.

The finished sculpture is due to be unveiled near the Stonemason’s Arms pub in Timperley in June.

Chris Sievey, the artist and musician behind Frank, died in June 2010, at 54, after a short battle with cancer.

Planners at Trafford council ruled in December last year that Frank would be immortalised in bronze after a huge campaign and fundraising for a permanent memorial. The 5ft 8ins statue is being cast in the Czech Republic and is due to be shipped to the UK by June.

Timperley councillor Neil Taylor said: “It’s looking good and people are pleased.”
