Four people have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect after the death of a toddler in Blackpool.

A two-year-old girl was rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital last night after suffering a suspected heart attack but later died.

Police were called by the ambulance service to an address on Jameson Street, Blackpool, at 11.45pm on Tuesday after it was reported the girl had gone into cardiac arrest.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the child’s death and currently have two men and two women in custody being questioned.

The suspects – a 29-year-old woman, a 41-year-old man, a 65-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man – are all from Blackpool.

Det Supt Paul Withers, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Force Major Investigation Team, said: “This is a tragic incident where a little girl has lost her life. A full investigation is underway to try to establish exactly what has happened. Specially trained officers are offering support to the wider family.”

A post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
