Worl to complete Walton-le-Dale Community Centre can finally go ahead, thanks to a £50,000 grant from the Eastern My Neighbourhood Forum.

The building at the Queen Victoria Recreation Ground off Higher Walton Road, has taken over 13 years to finish, with committee members applying for grants and organising community fundraising.

It is now open but extra funding has been needed to resurface the car park areas and surrounding paths.

Now forum members have stepped in, and will supply the cash from their allowance from South Ribble Council.

Members have also voted to give £38,000 towards regeneration works in Higher Walton, which have already seen new footbaths, and public art work installed.

Coun Barrie Yates said: “Higher Walton is looking good but with the completion of Phase Two it will look even better, and along with now having a new community centre completed in Walton-le-Dale is the icing on the cake.

“The Walton le Dale community fund raising committee have worked hard over many years and I congratulate them for all their time and effort, this just goes to show that together we can get things done.”
