Formal appeal deadline looms for Liverpool fan Michael Shields
Campaigners have started putting together formal appeals to Jack Straw's decision in Liverpool FC fan Michael Shields' case.
They aim to keep up the pressure on the justice secretary and on the Bulgarian authorities until Michael Shields wins a free pardon.
In the Commons, Riverside MP Louise Ellman is co-ordinating efforts to make sure all evidence is made available before the August 3 deadline.
Shield was convicted of the attempted murder of Bulgarian Citizen, Martin Georgiev on May 30, 2005, with a rock in the Black Sea resort of Golden Sands, Bulgaria, following Liverpool FCs 2005 UEFA Champions League win.
He had launched two appeals against his conviction amid a high profile 'justice' campaign, in 2005 and 2006.
They both failed and the original verdict was affirmed.
His prison term was reduced from 15 to 10 years after the second appeal - but with an increase in fine - and he is due for release in 2010.
He is currently in prison in the UK.
