Three players from a Lancashire football club were arrested by police after a brawl broke out at a Christmas party.

Two of the Clitheroe Football Club players arrested for their part in the altercation have been bailed by police. Another was given a fixed penalty notice for a public order offence.

Police said the incident happened outside the Social Club in Wellgate, Clitheroe, just before midnight on Saturday. A spokesman said around 20 people were involved in the fight.

One man was taken to hospital with facial injuries, described by police as "fractures", following the incident.

A spokesman for Lancashire police said: "Up to 20 people were fighting. One man has been taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment."
