Football star's world record challenge

A Lancashire man is the jet-setting, record breaking star of the football freestyle world.

John Farnworth's latest challenge has been perfecting his Around the World trick for a new television programme – Guinness World Records Smashed.

The 22-year-old former St Cecilia's High School pupil said: "They interviewed quite a few freestylers to go on the show who had different world records and, luckily enough, I got it.

"I was quite nervous because I've done a lot for Guinness all over the world but not in England.

"So I felt a bit of pressure because it's going out in my home country. It will be a show worth watching."

John's tricks have taken him to Thailand, Holland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and America and he has recently teamed with manufacturer Mitre to produce a special ball for keepy-uppy and performing tricks.

Despite his success, which has seen him rubbing shoulders with the Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho and Real Madrid's Ruud van Nistelrooy, John's talented feet are firmly on the ground.

He said: "I've just bought a house in Longridge and I will always live in Lancashire. I love it round here.

"I'm going out to Madrid in December to try and break another record and then to Dubai."

Presenter Ben Shephard, who is hosting the record breaking show alongside Fearne Cotton, said: "The Guinness World Records book was always one of those things that you got at Christmas, pouring through it, finding out about all these crazy people doing even crazier stunts.

"It's an extraordinary challenge for people to try and break records and it's something that they'll always have."

Tune to Sky One at 7pm on Sunday November 23 to see how John's attempt compares with his previous record of 83 repetitions in a minute.
