Cats Protection is on the prowl for star felines as it launches its National Cat Awards 2014.

Entries for the competition, which is open to all living cats in the UK, open today and end on Friday, May 30.

William from Chorley won the Most Incredible Story category when the awards were last held in 2012.

William was attacked by a dog, but despite having one broken leg and another dislocated knee, dragged himself back home half a mile on his front paws.

His owner Debra Terry rushed him to the vet, where his condition was critical for 24 hours and one of his back legs had to be amputated. He has since made a full recovery.

The award categories include Hero Cat, Most Caring Cat, Most Incredible Story and Outstanding Rescue Cat.
