Members of Preston’s Jamaican community gathered as their national flag was raised above the Town Hall.

The Jamaica National Association of Preston sang and cheered as the flag was raised, to mark 52 years of Jamaican independence.

They were welcomed by Coun Nicholas Pomfret, Mayor of Preston, who said: “The City Council is proud to fly your flag over the Town Hall to celebrate your 52nd anniversary of independence.”

Group member Maxine Grant said: “Every year Jamaicans in Preston and other Caribbean islands come together and rejoice for our freedom.”
