Alton Towers rollercoaster crash victim Vicky Balch has posted her first picture since having her right leg amputated below the knee.

The 20-year-old dancer from Leyland tweeted a picture of herself with Major Kate Philp, who lost a leg in Afghanistan and has since trekked to the South Pole with Prince Harry.

Vicky wrote: “Today I was inspired by a very amazing woman Major Kate Philp and I hope one day I can do the same for somebody else.”

The picture is believed to have been taken at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, where Vicky is said to be recovering.

The student was among four people who suffered serious injuries after a carriage on The Smiler smashed into another which had got stuck on the track.
