The first phase of work to revamp a popular gym has now finished.

The gym at Fulwood Leisure Centre in Fulwood, Preston, was closed for two weeks for the refurbishment to take place.

The makeover has seen the installation of the latest equipment from health and fitness innovators, Technogym.

Visitors can now expect to see cardio equipment of a new calibre, featuring completely new designs based on extensive research, ensuring optimal positioning and inclination.

The rest of the leisure centre was open while the work was carried out, more work is due to take place in the New Year.

In the New Year a new dance studio will be added.

The new space will see a mezzanine floor created above the squash courts with further developments in the lower floor gym.

The work will begin on Monday January 6 and this will mean the changing rooms, squash courts, lower floor gym and physio room will be closed.

Coun Tom Burns, Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “The new equipment is very high tech indeed and a welcome addition to the myriad of facilities already on offer for members.

“This is the first phase of a number of works to both leisure centres, and I thank people for their continued patience whilst the refurbishments take place.”

All the equipment is from Technogym’s 700 series, and includes technology allowing users to surf the net whilst training.

Access to tv, radio channels and interactive games, compatible with iPods and iPhones, also widens the range on offer to accompany a workout.

A similar re-fit will take place at West View climbing and leisure centre in January.

The total cost of refurbishment for both gyms is £500,000 including new equipment, installation, some re-wiring, new flooring and decoration.
