A community handball club is being set up in Garstang - the first of its kind in Lancashire.

Wyre Counci has secured funding from Sport England to establish the club, which will be established in partnership with Myerscough College and England Handball.

It will offers young people aged 14 and above the chance to learn the sport and play in a team via weekly sessions at Myerscough Sports Centre in St Michael’s Road, Bilsborrow.

Councillor Lynne Bowen said: “I’m delighted we have been able to create the first handball club in the county in Garstang.

“The sport is being backed nationally and the aim is to increase participation at grassroots level.”

Myerscough College Sport Maker, Amy Thompson, said: “This is an exciting time and the grant is great news for us.”
