Police are investigating after a fire broke out near the derelict Camelot theme park site.

The fire service and police rushed to a fire in timber buildings on the 7.5 hectare unoccupied site of the former Latvian consulate, Pemberton House, Park Hall Road, Charnock Richard at around 9.15pm last night.

The emergency services were alerted by Highways England who spotted smoke from the motorway.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “It was Highways England that had spotted smoke near Charnock Richard services.

“It was a fire in a range of timber buildings that had been used as stables.”

A huge blaze, allegedly caused by arsonists, caused the roof of the house to collapse back in April.

Lancashire police confirmed they are investigating the cause of the fire and that they will be attending the scene with the fire service today.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “We have been called to a few fires there.

“We put the fire out and the police will be looking into it.”
