Firefighters were called to tackle two blazes in Preston overnight.

They were called to Birkett Drive at 10.35pm yesterday after a chip pan caught fire, before going to a car park in Witton Street at 1.15am today, when an abandoned vehicle went up in flames.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said one of the occupants in Birkett Drive, who moved the pan in the back garden, was taken to hospital as a precaution after inhaling smoke.

An investigation into the cause of the car fire is understood to be underway.
